From the religious point of view, Maarra is approximately four fifths Melkite Catholics and one fifth Antiochian Orthodox with a dozen Moslem families. These three communities live in peace and harmony. The village is small and everybody knows everybody else. We feel that we form one large family.

In addition to the places of worship within the village itself, there are also an excavated Antiochian Orthodox monastery of St. Christopher at the crossroads of Maarra and Sednaya and the Syriac Orthodox monastery of Mor Ephrem on the outskirts of the village.
