History of this Site:
As almost everyone cherishes his/her homeland and heritage, native or ancestral, this is the work of three persons who have roots in the village of Maarra: two Melkite Greek Catholic priests and a Computer Science graduate. A first generation American born of Syrian parents, Father John Azar, conceived the project in 2006. He discussed the idea and its possibilities with Father Alam Alam, a native son of and former pastor in the village, also presently ministering in the U.S., who authored the bulk of the historical text. The latter suggested Sami Wakeem, born in London of Syrian parents, raised in Cyprus and then moved to the U.S., as a possible webmaster. Mr. Wakeem immediately learned the development of a website. Their collaboration together on the layout, text, photo collection and appearance of the present site resulted in this offering, released on January 1, 2007. We appreciate the several resource persons who aided us in the process. We welcome any input to benefit the site.
